Pulitzer Prize Winning Composer and Rhythm In Nature Founder Susie Ibarra along with Rhythm In Nature co-producer Jake Landau are excited to bring their next Residency / Retreat to life in Berlin.

Since 2023, Ibarra and Landau have been offering in-person Residencies and Retreats sometimes focused on bird songs, ocean waves, fresh water, and the collective experience and practice of recording on field, sometimes focused on recording studio, stage performance, and interpreting sounds from nature on ones instrument, and always focused on Ibarra's 6 part analysis and practice of studying and playing Rhythms In Nature. Ibarra and Landau have taught and led these Retreat's and Residency at venues such as PS21: Center for Contemporary Performance in Chatham, NY, UNESCO Site Doñana National Park in Andalucia, Spain, Berlin, and Baltic Sea in Germany. 

 

This next Residency will combine a mix of both field and recording studio practice. We will focus on the creative practices of Rhythm In Nature and refining these skills on the field and in the studio. In recording studio we will also work individually with each artist to help strategically design and develop to fruition either existing work or new ideas and develop with the artist a strategic plan in bringing the work out into the world.

 

This will be a 3 day Residency: 

 

Day 1 will be spent in Spreewald, outside of Berlin, on field going in depth on Rhythm In Nature field recording practices and capturing the field sounds of the Spree River, forest trees, and bird migration season, both from canoes floating down the river through the river forest, and on land. 

 

Days 2 and 3 will be spent in Recording Studio in Berlin on personal development of each participant's projects. This could be an album, E.P., spatial sound composition, learning and developing sound pack techniques etc .. workshopping, and developing the mix and direction for publication of this piece.

This fee is inclusive of all workshops in studio and on field, local travel to and from Berlin city to Spreewald, and a welcome dinner on the first evening. 

 

All hotel costs, food (outside of the welcome dinner), travel/airfare to and from Germany, and travel within Berlin to and from workshops is not included in the price above and is to be booked separately by participants.
