The Water Dreams of Animals
a landscape opera & acoustic installation

The Water Dreams of Animals is an opera and installation work by Pulitzer Prize Winning composer Susie Ibarra commissioned by Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Green Umbrella Series.  It is created in collaboration with acclaimed artists: poet and librettist Jeffrey Yang, director Charles Chemin conductor by Vimbayi Kaziboni, renowned soloists Claire Chase and Alex Peh with Ibarra, the HEX vocal ensemble, and Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group.

 

This meditative study on historical waters and our connections to the ancient and present day life inside these waterways will premiere on the LA Phil Green Umbrella series on May 25, 2027 and have its first installation exhibition in Los Angeles alongside the world premiere. Susie Ibarra is composing a new work , designing sound sculptures in stone and bronze inspired by the lithophones and the life inside the waterways. She is recording on field of canyons in Colorado and Utah down to the Sea of Cortez in Mexico and California , to create the composition and installation.  

 

The Water Dreams of Animals is a part of Ibarra’s compositions and performative works that are meditative studies in natural environments, CHAN , also the her middle name meaning meditation in Chinese.
